One man, Fred Lebow, stood at the center of the world's greatest footrace. One of the most influential and unlikely American icons, Lebow fled his Orthodox home in war-torn Europe and found his calling when he brought together a ragtag group of runners for the first NYC Marathon in Central Park. In 1976, Lebow took the race through all five boroughs, uniting a divided city and sparking a worldwide fitness boom. Lebow lived for the NYC Marathon, yet he only ran through the five boroughs once, as the world looked on, in an unforgettable race against the odds. IN THE DARK
In February 2006, rubber tappers went on strike to protest harsh working conditions, low wages, environmental negligence, and the use of forced and child labor on the million-acre Firestone rubber plantation in Harbel, Liberia. IN THE DARK follows families involved in the ongoing worker's rights movement in Harbel, as they attempt to stand up to a multi-billion dollar corporation, while managing to survive in one of the most impoverished and war torn nations in the world. Told through the eyes of the "tappers", this verite documentary reveals larger issues of corporate responsibility and global accountability and examines what is at stake for their children, who must learn to walk in the harsh world of adults.
